Manly is Sydney's first tourist resort. Soon as the
colonial settlers arrived in Sydney, Manly had been earmarked for a beachside
tourist destination and quarantine station (now closed but open to public
tours). The beautiful beach is the backdrop to its many activities and
facilities to visitors. It is a "surfie" place with a touch of
cosmopolitan and pizzazz. It is positioned on a peninsula that is bound by
sea on 3 sides of it.
Manly was named after Captain Arthur Phillip reported
"manly" aborigines on the positions that marks today's
"manly".
The famous Manly beach boasts world surf carnivals and
"ironman" events throughout the year. Manly has something for
everyone. It accommodates for many types and ages of visitors.
Manly can be reached by ferry (1/2 hour) or Ferry
Cat (1/4 hour) from Circular Quay or by bus or car by land.
There is a craft markets on The Corso on weekends and many
children's rides and interests at or close to the wharf including Oceanworld
Manly that houses huge Grey Nurse sharks . There are also some great walks to
take as well as many galleries and restaurants to experience.
More than 1 day would be needed to experience this
suburb of Sydney.
