The Art Gallery of New South Wales began in 1871. Like the museum,
its collections were moved around a variety of premises until it settled at its
architecturally designed building across from the picturesque Domain in 1885.
its collections include Australian, European, Asian and Contemporary Art.
Each year there are exhibitions of the annual Archibald Prize finalist contenders and Year 12 Contemporary Art displays that presents the works of our future artists assessment projects. In addition to these, the Art Gallery presents international art works that are on tour in Australia.
