Bathurst is Australia's first inland settlement. It is located in the fertile and well watered Macquarie Valley nestled between 3 rivers - Macquarie, Lachlan and Murrumbidgee.
Originally the region was home of the nomadic Wiradjuri Aboriginal Tribe.
Lachlan Macquarie proclaimed Bathurst settlement on 17th May, 1815. It was used as a great base for further western journeys to start.
The settlement of the town boomed when specks of gold was discovered initially in surrounding Fish river in 1823, but further in the 1850's and 60's.
The transport Cobb & Co commenced using Bathurst as
its headquarters in 1862.
Today, Bathurst is a region that is heavily based upon education and agriculture. There is so much history, culture, activities and highlights to enjoy when visiting the area.
