ABOUT THE CHALLENGE
The McDonald's Performing Arts Challenge will be held in Sydney from
June 15 - September 22. With around 26,000 talented entrants each year
and over $188,000 in cash and awards, the Challenge is the largest
competitive festival of its kind in the world.
Some of the many former entrants who have gone on
to enjoy great success on the world stage include, Dame Joan Sutherland,
James Morrison & Marilyn Jones. In more recent years, opera
celebrity Amelia Farrugia, hit sensation Human Nature, Hi-5 members
Kathleen de Leon & Nathan Foley and Home and Away star Tammin Sursok
were all regular prize winners.
The Challenge offers events in contemporary &
classical vocal, dance, instrumental, orchestral, choral, speech, drama,
creative writing and music composition.
The Challenge is renowned for encouraging
classical excellence with several valuable scholarships and awards,
including the $53,000 McDonald's Operatic Aria, $30,000 McDonald's
Ballet Scholarships, $14,000 GIO Awards for Choirs and the $10,000 John
Allison City of Sydney Piano Scholarship.

performers and plenty of
