ZZ Top XXX Tour 2000 - Sydney
Entertainment Centre
ZZ top have
arrived back to Sydney 24/4/00 after playing at Byron Bay's Roots and
Blues Festival on the weekend. The concert was not a sellout, perhaps
because their true fans saw them up at Byron Bay earlier. It was an
enjoyable night for concert
goers who were there.
The support act
Never the Bride were an English band who sounded like a mixture of Melissa
Etheridge and Led Zeppelin rolled into one. The band impressed us so much,
that we purchased a self-titled CD of their music. If you get the chance
to see them perform in Sydney, you won’t be disappointed.
Their only current booked Sydney gig will be at the Bridge Hotel
Rozelle on 5th May 2000 at 10pm. Do keep an eye out for more
gig dates.
ZZ Top - Billy,
Dusty and Frank were introduced on stage by a slim red bob cut girl in a
Cowgirl outfit with a deep voice over. The stage was set with white sails
in the backdrop used as screens for the wallpaper patterns generated from
the lighting.
Billy and Dusty
the up front men projected a simple but cool and suave "step"
routine. I was just amazed at the coolness these guys kept throughout the
whole show.
The concert was
a great mixture of their Texan style Blues and rock that they are famous
for. As it was the XXX tour, many of the tracks from their album
were performed. The fans hung out for Sharp
Dressed Man, Legs and Gimme
all Your Lovin which they were treated with towards the end of the
show, leaving them fairly satisfied.
Generally the
crowd was great, the lowlight of the night was the few concert goers who
spoilt the night because they thought the night was too cool, that
they decided to exchange some heated blows.
